Longing
Exhibited in Galerie Mánes, Prague, Czech Republic in July 2025
This painting began with a longing for the sea. Living far from the ocean, I found myself missing not just its presence, but its rhythm—its way of moving through time and emotion.
The layered forms in Longing are drawn from folds of fabric, but they’re also waves—gentle, circling, unrelenting. For me, they became a language for grief.
When loss is new, the waves crash in quick succession—tight, sharp, close. As time passes, the space between them widens. The pain doesn't disappear, but it becomes quieter, more spacious. The tide still returns, but with more grace.
This piece holds all of that: the weight, the softness, the longing.
